Discover My Surprising Brand Archetype & Why It Matters to You
Here’s something you may not realize: Groovyhome is a Rebel.
Yep, it’s true!
When I learned this, it didn’t make sense; I don’t think of myself or my business as rebellious...
But after diving into research on brand archetypes, I arrived at a deeper understanding. Here’s a summary of what I discovered:
The Rebel archetype is a change agent who challenges the status quo.
She forges her own path and guides others along the way.
She’s compelled to reform outdated systems or processes and create something new.
The Rebel gives hope for a better future with her innovative ideas.
She takes labels such as “quirky”, “eccentric” and “unconventional” as high praise.
When I applied these characteristics to my own business, I discovered that The Rebel doesn’t necessarily appear in the designs I create, but she’s right there in my process and practices.
Here are 4 ways in which Groovyhome challenges the design industry status quo, and what they mean for you.
Number One
I use my signature project workflow that makes the design process flexible.
When you work with me, you can decide if you want to shop on your own, or continue on with me as your designer. That’s one way my process differs from full-service design projects.
Number Two
avoid costly renovations by updating the existing space.
treat the Earth gently by not adding demolition waste to the landfill.
aim to reuse and revive special pieces to extend their usefulness.
We don’t tear down walls or create a bigger project that balloons out of control. And I don’t pressure you to get rid of everything and start from scratch.
Number Three
charge for my expertise, not for furniture.
specify retail because it’s accessible to everyone.
share a portion of my designer discounts with full-room clients.
Worrying about mark-ups and hidden agendas is a thing of the past. You also have access to my industry partners and pricing when you do a complete redesign project.
Number Four
can prepare clients to shop on their own, if that’s their jam.
love consulting for DIY’ers because sometimes they need advice and I admire their tenacity.
You get help from a down-to-earth, intuitive designer who can narrow down your options and save you from decision-making paralysis, no matter how much you want to spend or how involved you want to be with your project.
Lots of these practices are controversial in the industry, and that’s okay. The field of interior design has room for business models of all sorts, no disrespect to any of them. I work this way because it benefits my clients, and quite honestly, it benefits me too.
I’m getting comfortable with my Design Rebel archetype now. It’s like trying on a dress that I’d never choose for myself, but low and behold, it fits like a glove.
Does this mean my clients are rebels too?
Maybe so, because they’ve chosen to work with a designer who disrupts the status quo with the way that she works. They know the value of taking an alternative path to the updated room they’re been dreaming about.
And when they want to paint their kitchen in the most delicious, shimmery shade of pale lilac you’ve ever seen (true story), I say “Go for it, Design Rebel!”
