The Fact is ... Most home projects falter because there isn’t a comprehensive design plan in place.
In our first apartment, I remember decorating the living room bit by bit, in no particular order of things.
When I got to the last and biggest piece of furniture (totally the wrong order, btw), the futon store had two choices of fabric covers that could possibly work: plain khaki or teal with a random pattern of stripes.
Since khaki wasn’t our thing, we tolerated that patterned teal futon cover for years, even though it really didn’t look that good with anything else in the room.
I learned the hard way that designing a room piecemeal is a frustrating process that can quickly veer into an unintentional result.
These days, a clear design plan lies at the heart of every project I do.
Otherwise, we’re forever lost in the aisles of HomeGoods.
