You Don't Need a Costly Renovation to Create the Home of Your Dreams
Even though we're seeing some improvements in the industry, interior designers and other home professionals continue to cope with supply chain backups and inventory shortages. Prices have increased on so many things, including fuel. And the current truck driver shortage directly impacts the foundation of our national shipping system.
If you're considering a home construction project at the moment, you'll need a big budget and plenty of patience in the face of these conditions.
Or... you can try these 3 home updates yourself, without waiting months to see the results.
Tip #1: Renew Each Room with a Fresh Coat of Paint
The simplest way to make a big change in your home? Paint! A fresh coat of a new color can revive any room in a jiffy. Dark and drab becomes fresh and fab just by choosing a color that excites you today.
You can paint the entire room one color, or choose a neutral for three walls and a bolder shade for one accent wall. Another idea is to paint the walls and trim in the same color to give an expansive feeling in the space. And the ceiling offers an extra surface to play with.
So many options with just one change.
Tip #2: Spruce Up Each Space with New Lighting & Hardware
What about the lighting and hardware in your room? These can date a home very quickly, but they're relatively easy to swap out for contemporary fixtures.
Let your favorite design style guide you to new cabinet pulls and fun lighting that express your personality.
There are lots of online sources where you can start your search, but seeing these items in person is even more inspiring. Find a local showroom that has lots of options so you can see what's available right now.
Tip #3: Adorn Each Area with Updated Window Treatments & Furniture
If your paint, hardware and lighting are going strong, then maybe it's time to focus on soft furnishings like window treatments and upholstery.
Take a look at the furniture you have today--is it in good enough condition to reupholster? How many pieces would this work for? If it's two or three big pieces, that opens up many more fabrics to choose from. And if you need new furniture, the world is your oyster as far as choice.
Replacing out-of-date rugs and window treatments also elevates your room. Bring in something clean-lined to the window, like a shutter blind, or soften the area with new fabric, either in panels or on a valance.
Soft furnishings give the perfect opportunity to make dramatic changes in your room without lifting a paintbrush.
Here’s My Warning!
BEFORE you rush out to the showroom or fabric store, it's wise to make a design plan first. Then you'll have what you need to make sound decisions in the store in case something's out of stock by the time you get there.
With most home design projects, it's worth starting sooner rather than later, in order to get a jump on delivery times and materials options. It’s so disappointing to find that the item you really want is on backorder, or worse, no longer available.
If you would like some support navigating smaller home upgrades like these, I’d love to help. Reach out and let's get to know each other.
Until Next Time,
